Time Based approached The Halo Group to create a technical solution for their annual event at The GQ Awards at the royal Opera House.
Traditionally, two parallel mezzanine balconies running along either side of the room have been used to seat VIP guests during the awards ceremony. Our client, Time Based asked us to come up with a solution to span across a stair well to join the two existing mezzanine balconies with a third, to form a horse shoe formation as shown in the picture below.
After some architectural alternations and bespoke welding, our fabricators were able to over come the technical obstacles of the build to create the desired effect. This allowed for the capacity of the VIP seating section to be increased for the 2013 ceremony.
Further development were added to our existing system such as a reinforced glass balcony frontage and polished steel hand rails.
The event was an incredible success and our structure really raised the profile, aesthetics and functionality of the event space. We have already been approached to further develop the awards in 2014, an opportunity we are very much looking forward to.
