PR Stunt – Cadbury

December 4, 2015

The Halo Group was commissioned by Miss Cakehead for Golin PR to create a Chocolate Grotto for a PR stunt for Cadbury, with every component completely constructed from chocolate and packed full of Cadbury’s products. Following the activation earlier in the week, The Halo Group blog takes a look at some of the highlights.

The activation aimed to encourage “stop and stare” moments to enhance the Cadburys Christmas Advent Calendar campaign and enhance the online story and media interaction. This quirky delivery brought a distinct element of fun with an emphasis on the finer detail. The grotto was constructed inside a Cadburys branded truck, number 1 of 25, supplied by the end client.

Looking inside the trailer from a raised platform people were able see into a grotto made entirely from chocolate. The interior framework was constructed from wood and completely lined with Cadburys festive chocolate bars. A special epoxy resin was added to some surfaces to give an authentic look and feel of chocolate and to give a more indulgent embellishment and of course the illusion that the grotto was entirely edible.

The interior cladding featured real bars of festive Cadbury Dairy Milk to create “the ultimate edible wallpaper”. A selection of large set pieces, fabricated in house by The Halo Group featured prominently within the design such as a “chocolate fireplace, chocolate covered Christmas trees, a chocolate effect Santa’s Grotto workshop wall to display products, an oversize Curly Wurly ladder and a Wispa table clad in a mosaic of Cadbury product.

The finishing touches of dressing and styling were  provided by creative director Miss Cakehead and food artists Juliet Sear and Charlotte O’ Toole which helped tie the overall design together.

Creative Director of The Halo Group Sam Matthews said:

“Working with Miss CakeHead on behalf of Cadbury was an exciting project. The set pieces we  fabricated in our workshop really inspired a sense of the magical and created an almost child like nostalgia ahead of the festive season. This highly creative, quirky brief was the perfect project to use our specialist prop making and set build team. The chocolate finish to the elements will also utilise our scenic painting and production team to recreate the look and feel of real chocolate across the build. In addition to the creative, we also ensured a range of practical and technical solutions were in place to add even more wonder on the day”
