Waitrose Christmas

Pop Up Structures

In 2016 we were commissioned to design and build a pop up giant hamper for Waitrose as part of their experiential campaign at Kings Cross station on the 22nd & 23rd of December.

The pop up structure installation was part of the retailer’s social media Christmas campaign, entitled #homeforchristmas, and was aimed at raising brand awareness. This exciting project utilised many of The Halo Group’s core products and services to help create the end result.

The Brief

Lead agency on the project, Fuse, approached The Halo Group for our specialist fabrication knowledge to design and install the pop up hamper. The project featured a snow covered festive set complete with a selection of winter props, set pieces, Christmas trees and other scenic touches. The hamper itself formed an imposing 4mx7m focal point set on the concourse of the station.

The Solution

We designed a steel skeletal frame utilising our unique modular build system to provide a supporting structure for the build. The system is made up of lightweight RSJ beams and connector bolts and can be used for a wide range of experiential activations. For the Waitrose job, this provided the ideal solution to complete the project in a tight 4 hour build window between 1am-5am. For the finish, bespoke, handwoven willow panels were installed by The Halo Group’s production team onsite to create the hamper effect. The production features, giant bow, oversized gift tag and buckle strap detail were all prefabricated by The Halo Group and specialist partners Tristan Cochrane and Jay Davey Bespoke Willow to complete the look. As the commuters started their daily journeys, our hamper design really made an impact.
