Formula E Podium London

In July 2021 Formula E returned to the London Excel Centre to collaborate in the world’s first indoor-outdoor motorsport race.  

Formula E wanted to create a real spectacle for fans with the podium ceremony, so a larger stage was designed integrating the FE cars, a large main stage for performances and the podium ceremony plus a huge LED screen framing it all. The first objective was to create a unique visual experience.  The second objective was to feature the three winning cars as part of the ceremony, with the Halo structure system allowing the cars to drive under the podium, creating a real wow moment. 

We have delivered the podium the last 3 years and each year improved the structure.  We designed and built a 15m by 20m mezzanine structure with three 5m bays for the cars to pass through the podium from the back and a hidden staircase for the drivers and other performers to reach the mezzanine on each side.  At the back of the stage, a 5m tall AV tower was built on our mezzanine, allowing LED screens to be fixed to the front and a back of house area to the rear, for the technicians.

ADI TV, LED screen specialists provided a huge modular set up with over 100 square meters of 3mm LED screens across the full podium structure to create a visual impact.  During the design stage the Halo R&D team developed a specialised fixing bracket for the screens by working with the ADI technicians, allowing the screens to be secured quickly and easily to our beams.

During the event, the podium hosted live pop performances, TV presentations and the official ceremony over the fully charged race weekend, truly delivering on its promise of an incredible fan experience.
