GlobalGathering 2014

Arena Design

The Halo Group specialises in designing unique festival stages. In 2014 we worked for GlobalGathering festival to create The Freight Depot, a large festival arena constructed entirely our of modified shipping containers which were stacked together create a destination area at the festival.

Of all the festival stages on the site, The Freight Depot quickly became one of the main attractions. Featuring a world class line up of DJs, this outdoor stage really packed a punch.

Halo services provided...

  • Container modification
  • Concept development and design
  • Welding and metal work
  • Crane hire
  • Sound and lighting
  • Planning and logistics
  • Stage management

The Brief

Our brief was to create a range of different festival stages on site, each with its own identity. For the Freight Depot our client wanted an industrial inspired look and feel. Our design also needed to have a high capacity and feature a first class D&B PA system and lighting array. With a line up of electronic music's finest DJ's and producers on the line up the festival organisers wanted us to create something memorable, original and functional so we set to work!

The Solution

To achieve the end result, we modified several shipping containers so they could be assembled in a "brick work' style stacking formation. We incorporated additional loading points on each unit for this to be achieved. Once the outer perimeter was in place, we cut a large aperture in the final container to create a DJ booth which was positioned at the far end of the Freight Depot high above the crowd. The arena drew 1000s of revellers across the event and was a huge success.
